Description

Ponta de São Lourenço is the eastern most point of Madeira Island, 9 km long. Here the cliffs rise 180m above the Atlantic in a dry and tree-free setting, and it has been considered a Nature Reserve since 1982. There are volcanic hills formed by ash and sand, covered by ocher, which results from the existence of limestone in the subsoil. We can see the veins in the host rock in all coast.
